Germany Arrests Five Members of Far-Right Group

(MENAFN) In a large-scale operation spanning multiple cities, German law enforcement detained five individuals suspected of being affiliated with a far-right extremist organization known as “Last Wave of Defense,” federal prosecutors announced on Wednesday.

These arrests were part of a coordinated crackdown against what authorities describe as a terrorist network.

The alleged extremists, whose names were released only as Benjamin H., Lenny M., and Jason R., due to German privacy regulations, were apprehended in the federal states of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Brandenburg, and Hesse.

Prosecutors believe the leaders were orchestrating violent acts specifically targeting migrants and individuals holding opposing political views.

Federal prosecutors explained in a public statement, “The members of this group see themselves as the last line of defense for the German nation.”

According to them, the primary objective of the group was to destabilize Germany’s democratic framework through aggressive actions, with a particular focus on ethnic minorities and dissenting voices.

Among the reported attacks, prosecutors highlighted a case of arson in October 2024, when the group allegedly set fire to a cultural institution in Altdobern.

Although the facility was inhabited at the time, no injuries occurred, reportedly due to sheer luck.

Another serious event took place in January 2025, when two individuals attempted to ignite a blaze at a refugee accommodation in Schmolln.

Alongside the attempted arson, walls were defaced with Nazi iconography and xenophobic graffiti, including slogans such as “foreigners out” and “Germany for Germans.”

Authorities also suspect the group was plotting another assault on a refugee center in Senftenberg.

Members reportedly obtained explosive materials from the Czech Republic before being apprehended by police.

The large-scale enforcement effort on Wednesday involved over 220 officers and included searches across 13 properties situated in five different German regions.
